TEHRAN The enemies of Islam and Qoran will not be able to make the people quit religion, said Seyed Ahmad Khatami, a theologian at Qom Muslim Seminary on Monday.

Addressing people at an Assembly of Muslim Fighters in Boroujerd at the Imam Khomeini Mosque, he called the comprehensiveness of character, belief in the people's power, reviving the concept of Velayat-e Faqih (Jurisprudence) as well as the school of Ashura as some of the late Imam's unique characteristics and said that Imam Khomeini was a politician with foresight as well as a political analyst of the current century.

Khatami also mentioned the collapse of the past regime by the Imam's religious leadership and the people's power as a national miracle.

Further in his speech Khatami said that there were two categories of democracy adding that in the Western democracy, people and democracy are substitutes for God while in a religious society the people are overseers of the government. He further noted that in a religious democracy, the officials should be the people's servants and prevent from any factionalism as well as economic and political corruption.

Khatami referred to the country's elections as other democratic affairs and said that the people have the right to participate in the Majlis elections so that they can give effect to the Constitution as voters.

Referring to the right to take part in the presidential polls as the people's another right, he said that anyone who will get the highest number of votes will be the president of all the people and should work for the benefit of all of them, even those who have not voted for him. He also noted that in a religious democracy, all of the people's wants are not illegal.
